What is Untimely Culture?

Untimely Culture is a blog about things that, more likely than not, have long since passed out of the realm of “popular.” While many of the things discussed on this blog will still be of interest to some readers, it will, in most instances, not be “of the moment.” Written by a nearly life-long denizen of “flyover country”, it will probably subvert some of your expectations of that sort of person.

The editor/author/creator of Untimely Culture is a cisgender white male in his late 30s who identifies as a progressive liberal. He embraces the label of Social Justice Warrior that is often used as a pejorative. His favorite films include Say Anything…, The Way Way Back, and the entirety of the Star Wars saga, and he will fight to his death to defend the fact that Ewoks are goddamn heroes. His favorite TV shows include Buffy the Vampire Slayer(even with the creator’s problematic behavior), The West Wing, and Dawson’s Creek. And, to round out a group of three lists of favorite things, his favorite books include Stephen King’s It, Sara Paretsky’s VI Warshawski series, and Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor and Park. He has spent a good portion of his adult life as a social justice activist, working in fields of domestic violence awareness, anti-death penalty activism, and sexual assault awareness. He also spends a significant amount of time watching professional wrestling.

In other words, he is a progressive liberal with some enigmatic taste from time to time. And that will all come through in this blog about his views on popular culture, politics, and life, where many of the names have been changed to protect the ability of the people mentioned to move freely about their lives and not be victims of Google-Fu.

Enjoy.
